Bohdan Polishchuk

Born in 1986 (Kyiv)

Scenographer, theater and stage costume designer, graphic designer, director, and curator of art projects.

Co-founder of the NGO Scenography Gallery (Lviv) and the international festival Lviv Qadriennale of Scenography.

Curator of Ukrainian pavilions at the International Tbilisi Biennale of Scenic Design (Georgia) 2020, 2022. Curator of the Ukrainian pavilion “Garden of Living Things” at the International Prague Quadrennial of Scenography 2023.

2021 – curator and author of the idea of the special project “Ukrainian Theater Costume of the XX – XXI Centuries”: 

Co-editor of the book, one of the artists whose works are included in the publication “Ukrainian Theater Costume of the XX-XXI Centuries. Sketches”, Olga Lagutenko, Lilia Voloshyna, Olena Kovalchuk, and Tetiana Rudenko. The publication of the Scenography Gallery and the Museum of Theater, Music, and Cinema of Ukraine, published by Oleksandr Savchuk.

Curator and one of the participants of the exhibition “Ukrainian Theatrical Costume of the XX-XXI Centuries” as part of the Lviv Qadriennale of Scenography 2021, Potocki Palace (Lviv National Gallery of Arts named after Bohdan Voznytskyi).

Realized projects

2023 – director and artist of the dance performance “Dance Macabre. The Immortal Dance, choreographed by Lesia Kekuatova, music by Varvara Turta, premiered at the Les Kurbas Lviv Academic Theater. Second premiere at the international festival Naujasis Baltijos Šokis/New Baltic Dance, Vilnius (Lithuania). The performance was commissioned by UA Dance Platform (Ukraine) and The Place (UK) as part of the Let The Body Speak project and supported by the British Council and the Ukrainian Institute as part of the UK/Ukraine Cultural Season.

2022 – director, scenographer and costume designer of the play “A Girl from Hiroshima, Scared of Thunder” by Hisashi Inoue, music by Yana Shlyabanska, National Center for Theater Arts named after L. Kurbas (Kyiv) in cooperation with the NGO Scenography Gallery with the support of UCF.

2022 – scenographer, costume designer for the play The Rising Hawk by Ivan Franko, directed by Andriy Prykhodko, music by Susanna Karpenko, Lviv Academic Theater named after Les Kurbas
