Lyubov Dushyna

stage designer, costume designer

    

Born in 1983 in Izium, Kharkiv region. Lyubov Dushyna worked as a fashion designer and costume designer. From 2010 to 2022, she was a production designer at the Theatre for Adults in Kharkiv. Since 2022, she has been working as an artist at the Mukachevo Drama Theatre. For more than 10 years, she has been working in creative tandem with director Kyrylo Dushyn.  She uses sculptural compositions in her design and is also fond of the technique of creating puppets.

Biography

Education:

Lyubov Dushyna studied at the Art School in Izyum from 1996 to 1999 and at the Kharkiv State School, specialising in theatre decorator. In 2009, she graduated from the Kharkiv Academy of Design and Arts, specialising in easel painting and easel graphics. Her teachers are Taras Shygymaga and Nina Denysova.

 

She was a participant in many educational projects that helped to improve the professionalism of young set designers and expand their professional networks. In 2018, she took part in the Autumn School of Scenography, organised by the National Union of Theatre Workers of Ukraine in Kyiv. The creative curator of the School is Sergey Masloboyshchikov. 

In 2019, the Scenography Gallery held a competition for the younger generation of scenographers. Lyubov Dushyna's work Post-Apocalyptic Theatre took second place. Thanks to the victory in the competition, the artist was able to visit Budapest and observe the work of the chief artist Oleksandr Bilozub at the National Theatre of Hungary.

 

In 2020, she became one of the participants of the Autumn School of Scenography of the National Union of Theatre Workers of Ukraine in Kyiv, curated by Oleksandr Bilozub. In 2021, she studied at the School of Scenography (topic ‘Theatre Costume Idea, Implementation’), curated by Aliya Mezhenina.

Participant of the music and theatre residency Vostok Opera in Kharkiv (2020), which operated on the basis of the Kharkiv National Opera and the Vostok Opera Residence ‘Light and Space’ (2021).

She is a participant of the Winter School of Scenography of the National Union of Theatre Workers of Ukraine, which will take place from 24 to 26 February 2025 at the Kyiv Actor's House. Curated by Bohdan Polishchuk.

2024 - participation in three exhibitions of the project ‘Ukrainian theatre costume of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries: Identity, context, landscape’ at the gallery of the Dzyga Art Centre (Lviv), the gallery of the Centre for Intercultural Creative Initiatives ‘Rozdroża’ (Lublin), and the Museum of Theatre, Music and Cinema (Kyiv). The project is supported by the UCF and the Ukrainian Institute

2019 - an exhibition of the winners of the competition for young scenographers at the Scenography Gallery, Lviv. 

 

Participated in the collective exhibitions of the Art of Slobozhanshchyna Gallery. Took first place in the nomination ‘graphics’ in the contest ‘Mother’.
