Dovilė Gudačiauskaitė (b. 1979) is a professional textile artist and fashion designer. She began her career in fashion design and, in 2014, graduated with a Master’s degree from the Vilnius Academy of Arts. Her studies shaped her as a distinctive creator, one who plays with the conceptual meanings of clothing in original ways.
In Gudačiauskaitė’s work, the theme of clothing never confines itself to function or design trends. Instead, it transcends conventional boundaries and transforms into art objects that reflect existential concerns central to the artist. Clothing as metaphor and symbol is one of her recurring themes, where garments-turned-artworks speak of humanity, being, time, memory, the past, God, birth, death, transience, and eternity.
Re-use and appropriation of old textiles are her primary artistic methods. Gudačiauskaitė consistently presents her work in exhibitions, having held six solo shows and participated in numerous group exhibitions. For the past decade, she has also been actively designing costumes for theatre productions.
Her work has been recognized with several awards: in 2016, a diploma and prize for her piece Untitled at the VII Textile Art Biennial; in 2014, the MA graduation work White White Day received the Vilnius Academy of Arts Honorary Professors Anastazija and Antanas Tamošaitis Award for the development of ethnoculture in contemporary art. In 2022, her installation Legatums Spe received the Top7 Gallery Award at the international art fair ArtVilnius.
Gudačiauskaitė is a member of the Lithuanian Artists’ Association and, since 2015, a lecturer at the Department of Textile at the Vilnius Academy of Arts.
