"Let's talk about light, let's talk with light!"

Master class on the basics of theatre lighting — from theory to practice.

👤 Host: Svitlana Zmeeva


About the speaker: Svitlana Zmeeva is a photographer and lighting artist. She graduated from the Kyiv Technological Institute with a degree in Advertising Photography and Photo Production.

She has worked in portrait and theatre photography and was a finalist in an international theatre photography competition (2012–2013). Since 2016, she has been involved in theatre lighting:

  • works with state theatres,

  • participated in projects Opera Aperta, OPEN OPERA UKRAINE, Kolyadenko Production,

  • is a co-founder of the NGO HRONOTOP.UA,

  • works with contemporary opera and interdisciplinary projects in Ukraine and abroad.


What we will do:

🔹 Let's familiarise ourselves with key theatre terminology

🔹 Let's consider the types of lighting devices, their functions and characteristics.

🔹 Let's talk about colour in light: RGB, CMY, CRI, light temperature

🔹 Let's find out what light filters are and how they are used in theatre and cinema.

🔹 Practice: building lighting schemes, working with decorations, stage dynamics

🔹 Let's find out how light shapes the atmosphere and how smoke works.

🔹 We will discuss how the visual concept of a performance is created and who is responsible for it: the director, set designer, lighting designer.


 For whom: For anyone interested in theatre, scenography, photography, lighting and visual arts.


The project is implemented with the support of the Lviv City Council and the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation.
