OPEN CALL for Ukrainian professional artists within international Lviv Quadriennale of Scenography 2025

What better way to start the project's information campaign than by announcing the first of several planned Open Calls?


And today is the day when we open the call for applications for participation in the exhibition of Ukrainian professional stage designers as part of the international Lviv Quadriennale of Scenography 2025.


Read carefully, get ready and don't miss out! Time flies fast, especially when it comes to deadlines.

Who can apply:

Professional artists, set designers and theatre costume designers, artists working with video in theatre and performance projects, young artists who are still studying but already have completed performances or productions. There are no age or gender restrictions.


Application deadline:

10 September 18-00


Important dates:

  • By 15 September, you will receive an answer whether your work has been selected to participate in the exhibition.

  • By 20 September inclusive, you will have to bring or mail the selected works to Lviv (to the address that will be indicated in private correspondence). Sending the works is at the sender's expense.


The opening of the Lviv Quadriennale of Scenography 2025 and the exhibition will take place on 26 September in Lviv. The exhibition will run until 2 October.


After the exhibition, you will be able to pick up your works in person or we will send them to you by post (the cost of sending the works is at the expense of the recipient).


The format of the Quadriennale:

It is important that the works proposed for the exhibition were created within the previous four years (2021-2025). Works created before 2021 will not be considered .

We equally accept both performances staged in state theatres and independent art projects.


The following are accepted for the exhibition:

  • models of scenography;

  • sketches of scenography;

  • theatre costumes and costume designs;

  • video art created for a play or performance;

  • photos from performances - only as a possible informational supplement to layouts, sketches or costumes.

We are also open to proposals to create installations or kinetic or other art objects specifically for the Lviv Quadriennale of Scenography.

*If you are ready to propose the creation of an installation for the exhibition, we ask you to send us a detailed description of the project, including a title, an explanation of the idea, a sketch, the expected dimensions, what materials you will need on site to create it, what technical support you will need (projector, lighting, speakers, etc.), what tools you will need for installation: a ladder, grinder, jigsaw, etc. How long it will take to mount and dismantle your installation.


Technical requirements:

Sketches in the technique of computer graphics or photo files for printing are provided in high quality: TIF files, 300 ppi, min : 420 x 594 mm.


All files will be printed on PVC and displayed without frames.


Hand-drawn sketches will need to be sent framed (glass/plastic frames with hanging mounts + matting)**.

**If your sketches are A4 or A3 in size, we will frame them ourselves if we do not run out of our planned resource of frames and matting. This will be discussed individually.

In your letter, please write information about your works that you propose for the exhibition (for future texts in the exposition) according to the following scheme:

If necessary, add comments to the proposed work in the letter:

  • indicate if the model has internal lighting that requires a power outlet;

  • indicate whether the mannequin will be provided in a mannequin box or will be displayed on a tablet;

  • what type of mannequin you prefer for your costumes: with a head (if the costume will have a headdress), with legs (if there will be pants or other costume elements that require legs), with arms, whether you can use a tailor's mannequin to display your costume, whether you need to hang any elements of your work;

  • other features.

2024 - set and costume designer for the play Gone with the Wind by Liudmyla Tymoshenko, directed by Ihor Matiiiv, Donetsk Academic Regional Drama Theatre (Mariupol).

Please attach photos of the works you propose for the exhibition.

What you get:

  • Participation in one of the central exhibitions of the international Lviv Quadriennale of Scenography 2025, which gathers a large audience of visitors and invited guests and will become an important large-scale art event in autumn 2025, supported by the Lviv City Council, the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation, Lviv theatres and other partners.


  • Information about you and your works will be published on the website of the Scenography Gallery for public access in the coming years.


  • A web version of the catalogue of the Lviv Quadriennale of Scenography 2025 will also be published on the website. Participants of the exhibitions of the Lviv Quadriennale of Scenography 2025 will also receive a free printed copy of the catalogue.


The exhibition will be assembled and dismantled by the organisers.

The organisers will provide stands for the models and mannequins for the costumes. The printing of printed materials on PVC (computer graphics, photos) will also be carried out at the expense of the Lviv Quadriennale of Scenography. It is possible to partially frame original sketches and matting if your works are A4 or A3 in size (limited number of available frames and matting).


Participation in the exhibition is free of charge.

The exhibitions and all events of the Lviv Quadriennale of Scenography 2025 will be free and open to the public.


However, the organisers may ask the artists who will be invited to participate in the exhibition to donate one of your works to form the permanent collection of the Scenography Gallery, which will become the basis for future projects and exhibitions.
