Lviv Quadriennale of Scenography 2025
On 26–28 September 2025, the third international Lviv Quadriennale of Scenography took place in Lviv.
The Lviv Quadriennale of Scenography is a large-scale international event initiated by the Scenography Gallery NGO in 2018. Despite the challenges of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, this year we managed to hold the international Quadrennial in Lviv for the third time.
The slogan of this year's event is ‘A point changes space.’
We believe that the most important and far-reaching changes can begin with a small impulse or movement, initiative, action, or even the voice of one person. We believe that change is life, and making it positive is a task for all of us.
We believe that the most important and far-reaching changes can begin with a small impulse or movement, initiative, action, or even the voice of one person. We believe that change is life, and making it positive is a task for all of us.
We interpret the term ‘scenography’ as broadly as possible, defining it as all possible contemporary manifestations of visual art in the field of stage design and even more: the visual component of the performing arts beyond the classical stage. The quadrennial format, i.e. an event that takes place every four years, focuses on the artistic processes, events and phenomena of the previous few years and the present.
The Quadriennale combines exhibition, educational and performance programmes that bring together artists, performers, art historians and theatre critics, as well as a wide audience from all over Ukraine and abroad. Its main goal is to promote and develop the art of scenography in Ukraine and to establish professional international communication.
The highlight of Quadriennale 2025 was a special project entitled ‘Stage Design: Dialogue of Identities: Ukraine-Lithuania,’ which we implemented in partnership with the Lithuanian Museum of Theatre, Music and Cinema, with the support of the Ukrainian Institute. The basis of the special project and the first event of the Quadriennale was a joint exhibition of contemporary Ukrainian and Lithuanian theatre costume designers in Vilnius.
The rest of the programme was traditionally held in Lviv. It centred on a series of art exhibitions by Ukrainian and foreign artists.
In addition, participants and visitors to the Quadriennale enjoyed a rich and varied programme of public events at seven locations throughout the city:
Curator: Bohdan Polishchuk
Producer: Oleh Oneshchak
Managers and team: Yulia Glushko, Victoria Kornienko, Maria Dzyamka, Olena Polishchuk, Olena Stadnik, Anita Stetsenko
